Organised by Roger Shannon and Steve Harding, The Lower Eastside Dialogues took place in April, May, June 2006 and in January, February, March 2007 at The Bond and at UCE's Screen Media Lab (both venues in Digbeth, Birmingham).
The six events brought together a host of regional, national and international figures to debate, discuss and develop new ideas on key issues for the emerging Eastside quarter in Birmingham. Exploring themes of 'Culture and Regeneration', 'Creative Campus in Eastside', 'Film Centre in Lower Eastside', 'The Design of Regeneration', 'Digital Cities' and 'Cities and Heritages', the Dialogues have helped to keep Eastside, Birmingham's designated cultural and learning quarter, at the forefront of topical debate and have pushed the boundaries of what can be aspired for in this new quarter for the city.
Speakers at the Lower Eastside Dialogues have been - Dr Franco Bianchini, Adrian Goldberg, Glenn Howells, Mary Matthews, Mary Martin, Steve Harding, Nik Powell, Jonnie Turpie, Eddie Berg, Roger Shannon, Bob Ghosh, Andrew Ormston, Pogus Caesar, Dr Noha Nasser, Ramona Usher, Izzy Mohammed, Suzie Norton, Peter Packer, Dave Harte, Liz Rosenthal, Nathan Cornish, Julia Ellis, Philip Singleton etc
Over 450 people attended the six Dialogues held in the spring of 2006 and in early 2007. A third series of Dialogues is currently being planned for autumn 2007, when the focus of debate, discussion and commentary will again fall on 'Culture and Regeneration'. A number of high profile speakers will be invited to give their views, engaging in independent dialogue with each other and with a lively and participating audience.
